A merry group of St Luke Carolers headed out to bring cheer to the Amerisist house and to the house of one of our members. Estelle accompanied the wonderful singing on the dobro and Mary Frances kept us on-key on piano. We wish you a Merry Christmas!

Praying for the families of Sandy Hook Elementary School
Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of Newtown, Connecticut, especially those who have lost a child. Let us pray for God’s peace to be present with them even the midst of this terrible tragedy.
We will have a moment of prayer for these families during our Blue Christmas Service this evening (Dec. 16, 5pm).

Let light perpetual shine upon them, O God, our hope and our salvation.
2012 Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
The Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at St. Luke’s on November 18th was a delicious success. Thanks to everyone who baked turkeys, hams, and pies. Thanks to those who made their traditional family recipes. And a special thanks to the Fellowship committee, Property committee and their many helpers who set up tables, wrapped silverware, decorated, carved turkeys, washed dishes, swept floors and took out the trash. Here our a few of our helpers in action.
Fall Clean Up Sunday November 4, 2012
St. Luke’s got a day of beauty on Sunday November 4th. Church members and Scouts all pitched in to clean, rake, fix and repair things in and around the church. Afterwards we all sat down for a well deserved lunch of hot dogs, chips and cookies.
Blue Christmas Service, Dec. 16
What is a Blue Christmas Service?
Christmas can be a painful time for some. It may be the first Christmas without a loved family member who has recently died, or it may be a time that has always been difficult. The constant refrains on radio and television about the happiness of the season or about getting together with family and friends, reminds many people of what they have lost. The pain of death, loss of a job, distance of relatives, or just “feeling off” doesn’t always ring true with the joy we expect to feel.
We need the space and time to acknowledge our human feelings; we need to know that we are not alone. We also need encouragement to live the days ahead of us. Join us for a different kind of service this year. A service of quiet and songs, a service of hope and joy. A service where we can express our discontent to God, and make room for the peace we need to hear this season.
All are invited to join us for a Blue Christmas Service, Sunday, December 16, 2012, at 5pm, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1200 Old Rixeyville Road. Chaplain Liz Danielsen of Spiritual Care Support Ministries will be the guest preacher. If you have any questions, please call Pastor Kate Costa at 540-825-8358.

Work begins on “The Upper Room”
Some of our members have begun working on renovating the room at the entrance to the office area of our church. New carpet has already been installed- and now the floor boards are being painted and installed.
We look forward to having this room as a beautiful place for prayer and reflection in our building- stay posted for more details to come!
