FAQ’s

When is worship?

10:30 a.m. every Sunday. For special services check our calendar or the home page.

Where is St. Luke Lutheran Church located?

The address is 1100 N. Main Street, Culpeper, Virginia.  The church is just off of Rt. 229, across from the Culpeper County Rescue Squad building.

Where should I park?

There is plenty of parking around the building.  For your first time, it is easiest to park on the left side of the building (looking at it from VA 229- the main road).  There are some spaces marked “Visitor” that should be available for you.  You will then enter the double red doors marked “Sanctuary” where the ushers will welcome you to our church.

What should I wear?

Come as you are comfortable! Some folks wear a coat and tie. Some wear jeans and a polo shirt. Some wear dresses and fancy shoes. Some wear shorts and a t-shirt and flip flops. However you come, you will be welcomed into Christ’s church! Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

What about my kids?  Do you have faith-formation for them?

Yes!  Each Sunday we have a children’s moment during the service. Children are always welcome in church (even if they make a bit of noise), and we also have a nursery if little ones (or parents) need a break.

Do you ways for teenagers to connect with Christ?

Yes!  Our youth are involved in many different aspects of faith life our congregation–volunteer service, Sunday School, participating in worship, helping to lead Vacation Bible School, and much more.  They are also involved with the church on the state level in the Virginia Synod and go to retreats and conferences each year.

I don’t have kids/ my kids are grown up.  Are there still ways for me to grow in faith?

Absolutely!  Each month we have a Lutheran Adults in Fun and Fellowship (LAFF) luncheon as well as weekly Bible study. We have volunteer and giving opportunities in the church and in the wider Culpeper community for all ages.  There are many, many ways to get involved in the mission of Jesus through St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Is your building handicap accessible?

Yes.  Our building is arranged so that all three levels (sanctuary, social hall, and office) can be accessed at the ground level from the parking lot.  There are no complicated ramps or lifts to maneuver.

Do you hold worship service when the weather is bad?

Typically, yes.  However if you are concerned, make sure you call ahead to the church office at (540) 825-8358.  You can get more details by checking our Inclement Weather Policy.

What is a Lutheran?

Lutherans are Christians.  We worship God together each week by praying, singing hymns, sharing the Lord’s supper, serving others, and reading the Bible.  Lutheran Christians have a strong emphasis on the word of God, Baptism, and Holy Communion.   We believe we are saved by God’s grace alone, not by anything we do or say.  For more on the basics of Lutheran Christianity, talk to the pastor or see the ELCA’s website.

Who can take communion at St. Luke Lutheran Church?

Holy Communion is the Lord’s table, not a Lutheran table.  All baptized Christians are welcome to take communion at St. Luke Lutheran Church, regardless of denomination or affiliation.  Children may commune when their parents decide they are ready in conversation with the pastor- we do not have a set age for all children.  Adults are encouraged to have a conversation with the pastor if they are interested in having communion for the first time.

Who are you affiliated with?

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church is a congregation of the ELCA (the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), in the Virginia Synod.  We are also participate in the Culpeper County Ministerial Association and the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce.
