Upper Room Dedication May 26, 2013

The Upper Room was dedicated in memory of Mrs. Evelyn Estes, our longtime member and organist. The former reception office for the school, the room has been given new carpet, paint, furniture and curtains. It also has beautiful crown molding- a special feat of engineering by Les Davis due to its odd shape. It has a handsome solid wood cross created by David Brown, her son-in-law, on one wall and a print of Jesus at the crucifixion on the other. This room will be used for families to gather for special functions such as baptisms, weddings, funerals and for prayer throughout the year. We thank her daughters, Arline, Rae and Kyle, for the love they have poured into this room.

Pentecost Picnic May 19, 2013

The Youth Group, with the help of the parents, held a delicious picnic following the worship service. The pulled pork BBQ was donated by Shawn’s Smokehouse and the chicken was donated by The Culpeper Cattle Company. The free will offering collected will help pay expenses for Synod Assembly and other youth trips. Due to chilly weather we held our picnic in the Fellowship Hall and still were able to enjoy an indoor game of corn hole.

Prayers for those affected by the tornadoes in Oklahoma

We remember in our prayers all those impacted by the deadly tornado and storms in the Oklahoma City area and beyond…

Loving God,

in the communion of Christ, we are joined with the trials and sufferings of all.

Be with those who endure the wind and rain.
Protect those in the path of danger.
Open the pathways of evacuations.

Help loved ones find one another in the chaos.
Provide assistance to those who need help.
Ease the fears of all and make your presence known in the stillness of your peace;
Through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Spring Theme Tea & Talent Event

The Fellowship Committee planned, prayed, prepared and were pleasantly surprised when it all came together. Our first Tea & Talent Event was enjoyed by all who attended. We thank those who helped us decorate, prepare food, and entertain. We also want to thank those who made donations to our kitchen. If you missed the fun, we hope you will join us next time.

Praying for those affected by the Boston Marathon tragedy

A powerful message and call to prayer from the Massachusetts Council of Churches:

MCC statement on the Boston Marathon Bombing

“Behold, I will bring health and healing to the city; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.” ~ Jeremiah  33:6

Our hearts are heavy in Massachusetts. On a great day of civic pride and joy, our city of Boston was scarred by violence.  We grieve for those who have died. Bodies made to run and cheer were wounded. Our eyes are burned with images of terror in the very streets where we walk. Attend to us, Great Physician. We do not yet know why this has happened. Preserve us from quick judgments, O Lord. Give us wisdom in the days ahead. Reveal to us peace and truth. We sing the African-American spiritual “guide my feet, while I run this race, for I don’t want to run this race in vain.” In this time of uncertainty and fear, we cling to the sure promises of our God that we do not go on in vain.

Even as we grieve, we will remain steadfast in charity, defiant in hope, and constant in prayer. We are grateful for the prayers and support from across the country and the globe. Please continue to pray for the victims. Pray for our first responders, our elected officials, and the media who work with such trauma and return home to their own families. Pray for those without permanent homes who live in our public parks, displaced by this violence in our city. Pray for the marathoners, tourists and visitors far from home.

The Massachusetts Council of Churches joins our prayers with citizens throughout the Commonwealth. In the words of the prophet Jeremiah, may our God indeed bring health and healing to the city.

The Rev. Laura E. Everett
